Taking the long view on business ownership.

Longcast Holdings is an Alberta-based investment and operating company focused on acquiring one great business and leading it for the long term.

We are looking to partner with an owner who cares about what they have built, the people who helped build it, and what comes next.

About us

A different kind of business transition.

Longcast Holdings was founded with a simple objective: find a great business, learn it deeply, and build on what has already made it successful.

For an owner, selling a business is about much more than a transaction. It can mean finding the next steward for something that took decades to build — the employees, customers, reputation, culture and relationships that make the company what it is.

Longcast offers a personal approach to that transition. Carter intends to step directly into the business as an owner-operator, working alongside the existing team and outgoing owner to ensure a thoughtful transition before leading the company through its next chapter.

We believe great businesses are built over years, not quarters. Our goal is to preserve what makes a company special, invest thoughtfully in its people and capabilities, and create enduring growth over the long term.

The name Longcast is inspired by how we think about ownership: patient, deliberate, and focused on the long-term. It is also a nod to time spent flyfishing the beautiful rivers of Western Canada.

Our team

Carter Cissell

Founder

Carter combines deep Western Canadian roots with seven years of strategy and operating experience at Boston Consulting Group.

Carter grew up on his family's grain farm north of Calgary, where he learned early that your reputation matters, relationships last, and your word carries weight. That upbringing gave him a lasting appreciation for entrepreneurs, family businesses, small communities, and the people who build their careers doing real work on the ground.

Over seven years at BCG, Carter worked with organizations across Canada and the United States on some of their most important strategic and operational challenges. His experience spans energy and mining, industrials, agriculture and food production, supply chain and logistics, consumer businesses, technology and transaction diligence. He has led teams through complex problems, worked closely with senior executives and frontline operators, and developed a practical toolkit for helping businesses perform at their best.

Longcast is an opportunity to bring those two parts of his background together: a world-class business toolkit and a grounded, relationship-first approach to working with people.

Carter lives in Calgary and plans to remain deeply rooted in Western Canada. Outside of work, he spends much of his time with his wife Larissa, friends and family, and fly fishing the rivers of Alberta.

Our values

What we care about.

Keep your word.

In small communities, your reputation follows you. We believe in straightforward conversations, clear expectations and doing what we say we are going to do — even when it would be easier not to.

Be good to work with.

Business is hard enough without making it miserable. We believe in showing up with a good attitude, getting to know people, listening well, and keeping a sense of humour along the way.

Respect what has been built.

A company's culture, reputation and relationships took years to earn. We want to learn before changing, and build from that foundation rather than assuming we have the answers on day one.

Take the long view.

The best decisions aren't always the ones that maximize next quarter. We want to own for the long term, invest patiently, and strengthen the company for years to come.

Our focus

Looking for one great business.

Longcast is flexible on industry and structure. We care more about finding the right business, people and transition than checking every box.

Get in touch

Start with a conversation.

Whether you are a business owner beginning to think about succession, an advisor with a potential opportunity, or simply someone who would like to compare notes, I'd be glad to connect.

There doesn't need to be a process or a pitch. A conversation over coffee or a quick phone call is a good place to start.
